what happens to the nine tails when its host (Naruto) dies? Would it die too? Would it be set free?

It would be transferred to another host
Well no it would not Transfer to a new host gotta remember they “sealed it into Naruto” so it would be set free because it takes over his body and makes its it own if were up to date on naruto u start to see it form but it goes away

He dies as well…I remember in an episode the ninetails said to naruto…”I will lend you my power, because if you die, so do I.” I think this was when Jirayia through Naruto off the cliff.

The nine-tails will die. Remember back when naruto was almost killed by sasuke. Sasuke had just suplexed naruto from like three stories on his head. The ninetails took over narutos body to save himself from dying. This was the first time we seen the cloak of the nine tails with one tail out.
Think about it. Why would the Nine Tails try to protect Naruto in the very past episodes if he could be set free? So yeah, the fox would die too.
He would die he mentioned it once that he could not let naruto die or he too would die.
His existence would not be dead I don’t believe his spirit would live on so they would ne able to retransfer his chakra to another host.
